About Zen

I am a white, middle-class, middle-aged, cisgendered, straight woman living in the Midwest. I have a white collar office job. When I am not working or taking care of my family with my husband, I am looking for ways to be a good ally to people who identify or are identified with groups that have historically been underrepresented. This blog is a continuation of that ongoing process. I am an awkward and fumbling ally, but I am committed to making mistakes, learning from them, and being of better service to everyone who could use a boost.

My skin type is combination/oily, with aging, crepey eyelids and dry, lined lips. I prefer an “everyday” look with the occasional editorial eye, and have chosen to age without hair dye or cosmetic modifications aside from pigments on my face.

My skincare routine is relatively simple, with western actives (glycolic acid wipes, Stridex pads, and Vitamin C serum) and hydration from Asian companies. I double cleanse. And I always, always, even on the cloudiest day, use SPF–so should you!
